In the Shan region of Myanmar, a large and still quite wild area in the east central part of the country, Lake Inle nestles in a long valley where a variety of hill tribes co-exist on the shores – and in the middle – of this shallow fresh water lake.
You can fly into Heho, 35km from the lake, from Mandalay or Yangon, or take the long scenic route by land. That route is invariably full of surprises, not all of them good ones, but you will never be bored.
