There are several sanctions in place by the European Union on Burma and this has meant that the country has been unable to do business with many European countries for a long time.

Importantly, there is a lumber trading ban in place on the country and it is also illegal to trade diamonds with them. Despite this ban, the Norwegian government has recently announced that they are going to begin putting some money into the country.
